Taste of the Carolinas is officially underway at Carowinds Amusement Park in Charlotte, NC. The event kicked off this past weekend and will continue every Saturday and Sunday through May 14. The event is in it’s 3rd season and is very popular. This year’s event brings back many traditional favorites and will showcase some new foods as well. There will also be cooking demonstrations and alcoholic beverage selections for those 21 and older.
Carowinds will be showcasing many foods from the different regions throughout the Carolinas. The regions showcased are: North Carolina’s Asheville/Mountain region, The Outer Banks and Lexington, Upstate South Carolina, The South Carolina Barbecue Region, Lowcountry and Charleston. There are some new dishes for the foodie in you to experience and those include: Frog Legs, Smoked Egg, Pork Belly Salad and Bourbon Chocolate Fritters. Many returning items include: Crispy Shrimp and Grits, Mushroom Ravioli with Wild Herb Butter and Barbecue Ribs.
The event opened to park guests on April 22 and showcased cooking demonstrations by Damaris Phillips of Food Network. This upcoming weekend will feature one of Charlotte’s favorite chefs. Chef Alyssa will be at the park on April 30, May 6-7. She has competed on Food Network’s Beat Bobby Flay and will showcase her skills in Carowinds’ Harmony Hall. Taste of the Carolinas is not included with park admission and tokens are required to sample foods and beverages. Guests must be 21 and older to sample alcoholic beverages served at the event.
Tokens are available for purchase online or at the park. You can purchase a set of 3 tokens for $4.00 on the park’s website. Food tastings are between 2-4 tokens per sample.
