Cedar Point retired the Mean Streak roller coaster on September 16, 2016. Park guests and many roller coaster fans had an idea that the park was up to something when at the funeral for Mean Streak a gentleman by the name of Richard Michael Crosby spoke. As the months went by after the death of Mean Streak, there was some anticipation that the ride would be receiving a makeover for the upcoming 2018 season. The park officially announced on National Roller Coaster Day that they would be building another record breaking coaster using the footprint that Mean Streak vacated.
Steel Vengeance will take riders on the journey of a lifetime. The ride is themed around outcasts Jackson “Blackjack” Chamberlain, Chess “Wild One” Watkins and Wyatt “Digger” Dempsey who have returned to FrontierTown after once being intimidated and disrespected by the musings of Maverick. They have returned to FrontierTown to right the wrongs done to them and their fellow FrontierTown Folk. Rocky Mountain Construction will be the manufacturer of this new one of a kind hybrid coaster where wood meets steel. Steel Vengeance will debut as the world’s first hyper hybrid roller coaster with a height of 205 feet. Riders will then plummet down at 200 foot first drop at a 90 degree angle before encountering 4 inversions, 5740 feet of track, numerous banked turns, and top speeds of 74 miles per hour.
Steel Vengeance will set 10 new world records when it debuts: 1. World’s tallest hybrid coaster (205 feet), 2. World’s fastest hybrid roller coaster (74 miles per hour), 3.
World’s steepest drop on a hybrid roller coaster (90 degrees), 4. World’s longest drop on a hybrid roller coaster (200 feet), 5. World’s longest hybrid roller coaster (5,740 feet), 6. Most inversions on a hybrid roller coaster (4), 7. Fastest airtime hill on a hybrid roller coaster (73 mph), 8. Most airtime on a hybrid roller coaster (27.2 seconds), 9. Most airtime on any roller coaster (27.2 seconds), 10. World’s first “hyper-hybrid” roller coaster. In addition numerous park records will be broken which include: Most steel roller coaster track at one amusement park (57,865 feet/11 miles), Most roller coaster track at one amusement park (60,423 feet/11.4 miles), Most rides at one amusement park (71), Most roller coasters over 200 feet tall at one amusement park (6), Most roller coasters with a first drop of 90 degrees or more at one amusement park (5).
