Cedar Point retired the Mean Streak roller coaster on September 16, 2016. Park guests and many roller coaster fans had an idea that the park was up to something when at the funeral for Mean Streak a gentleman by the name of Richard Michael Crosby spoke. As the months went by after the death of Mean Streak, there was some anticipation that the ride would be receiving a makeover for the upcoming 2018 season. The park officially announced on National Roller Coaster Day that they would be building another record breaking coaster using the footprint that Mean Streak vacated.
